Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry said his country is keen to see the end of the Syrian crisis which, over the past ten years, has led to 13.5 million Syrians being forcibly displaced.

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Russian counterpart, Sergey Lavrov, in Moscow, Shoukry said Cairo considers Syria 'an integral part of the Arab domain and Arab national security'.

Remarking on his meeting with the Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Al-Mekdad, on the sidelines of the Security Council meetings in New York last month, Shoukry said the meeting aimed to help Syria get out of its crisis and to listen to the Syrian government.

Shoukry stressed the importance of taking measures that preserve Syria's security, territorial integrity and stability as well as ensuring its return to its Arab League.

'We are waiting for the measures that the Syrian government may take within the framework of the political solution in Syria, activating the constitutional committee's discussions, and taking into account the humanitarian situation in Syria in order to alleviate the Syrian people's suffering and providing for their needs, and Egypt will always be supportive of stability and security,' he said.

Russia is the main backer of the regime of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad. It's entry into the country's civil war ensured that Al-Assad recaptured areas which he had previously lost to opposition groups.
