Syria regime seizes dissidents' property in Palmyra

September 2, 2021

The municipality of Palmyra in Homs governorate has seized property including real estate and shops that belong to opposition members who now live outside the regime-controlled areas after being displaced during the military operations.

The local AlBadia24 network reported yesterday that the Assad regime's municipal council in Palmyra confiscated the dissidents' assets and has started restoring the seized shops and properties. This is as per Law No. 10, which allows authorities to seize the property of dissident civilians who are unable to register the ownership of their property within the regime's areas of control.

Activists have previously accused Iranian militias of buying the homes of displaced civilians in Palmyra, with help from the Military Security branch of the regime's intelligence.
