July 6, 2021

July 5th, the Philippine Embassy in Damascus expressed its thanks to the Syrian Arab Republic for assisting in the returning of 22 of its nationals who were survivors of trafficking in persons and illegal employment.

The Philippine Embassy in Damascus indicated that in light of the serious, effective and sincere cooperation by the Syrian authorities, the 22 Filipino workers arrived in their country on the 26th of last June.

The Philippine Embassy indicated that the process of retrieving the workers took place after sending a delegation of five diplomats to the Philippine Embassy in Damascus, and they were assisted by taking legal measures from filing lawsuits against abusive employment offices and employers through close cooperation with the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Social Affairs and Labor, Interior and Justice.

Chargé d'Affairs in Damascus Feda Soraya Verzosa expressed her thanks to the Immigration and Passports Department at the Ministry of Interior and the Syrian authorities.

She noted the generous response they received to her request to grant Filipino workers exit visas, considering it a gift from Syria to the Philippines.
